The Chamber Guitar Project: A New Dialogue in Sound
The Chamber Guitar Project is born from the synthesis of performance and composition—a journey beyond the solitary tradition of the classical guitar. While the instrument has long been celebrated as a lonely soloist, my experience in diverse ensemble settings has revealed a different identity: the guitar as a transformative force capable of reshaping color, balance, and the very nature of musical dialogue within a chamber texture.

Historically, the guitar has drifted between the roles of a subtle accompanist or a distant soloist. We begin with a different ambition: to establish the guitar as an equal, structurally integrated partner within the modern ensemble. By placing the instrument alongside the sustained, lyrical breath of bowed strings—violin, cello, and double bass—we create a productive tension. The sharp, articulated resonance of the guitar meets the continuous flow of the strings, turning balance, breathing, and shared listening into the heartbeat of the music itself.

At the heart of the Chamber Guitar Project is a single, transformative inquiry: how can the guitar’s presence reshape the very nature of ensemble interaction? Moving away from the image of the guitar as a solitary voice, we reimagine it as a vital, breathing element within an interconnected sonic ecosystem.

In this project, composition acts as the primary instrument of inquiry. By crafting new works for specific performers and unique instrumental pairings, we create living musical scenarios. These "laboratories" allow us to explore the delicate interplay of balance, resonance, and coordination directly in the heat of rehearsal and performance.

The journey ahead will unfold through a new landscape of chamber repertoire—works prepared for the stage, the studio, and the page. This collective body of music, along with its documentation and recordings, will ultimately be shared through a public presentation, marking a new chapter in the guitar’s chamber legacy.
